Cambridge Architecture: Station Road and Warren Close

A group from CCC spent the morning looking the the new developments in the Station area and the Cattle market (now housing the Junction, Travelodge and Light Cinema complex). The latter has changed little in the last 5 years but area around the station is transformed. Very poor light to get the effect I was aiming at so will return on another day.

Christmas Trip to London Day 1

We decided that we would go ahead with our planned trip to London over Christmas. The only part of our trip where we might mix with people was on the train from Cambridge to London so we planned a lunchtime journey. This certainly worked as there was only one other person on our part of the train. We travelled to Liverpool Street and I had forgotten its fine Victorian architecture. I also played a bit with multiple exposure. We then walked down to London Bridge passing The Monument. From here it was along Borough Road to our Travelodge, which, as we predicted is very quiet.

Edme Factory and Station at Mistley

EDME has been based on the same site in Mistley since  the late 19th century. Originally called The Condensed Wort and Brewer’s Meal Company, the business was renamed The English Diastatic Malt Extract Company in 1884, a mouthful that was eventually shortened to EDME Ltd in 1897. EDME has been a cornerstone of the community for over a century; some employees have family involvement in the company going back many generations.
Mistley Station was opened by the Eastern Union Railway in 1854 and the brick-built two-storey Italianate station building  is Grade II listed.

York Museum Gardens and Station in Infrared

Our train home was not till midday yesterday, so we spent a bit of time in the Museum Gardens before walking to the Station. As my travel camera (Sony RX100) is now converted to infrared, here are a few shots from the morning - jpegs from the camera which is set to give these two-tone images.

Walk London Bridge to St Paul's - Clear Blue Skies

By midday, the fog had just about cleared to give a crystal-clear afternoon and sunset. There was still some low mist patches around which gave some very strange effects at the Shard. We spent time in The Tate Modern enjoying the new bridges across the Turbine Hall and the Boiler Hall and the concrete structures in the latter. Final image on DLR Shadwell Station changes for our train to Royal Docks and our hotel.
