Welney Swans on Ice

We visited Welney on Wednesday in subzero temperature and misty conditions which made great backdrops for the Whooper Swans, Greylags and ducks. There is very little unfrozen water  for the swans so numbers for the roost were much lower than usual.

Remembrance Sunday

A few images from a very misty walk around my Cambridgeshire village, Toft, on a very misty Remembrance Sunday morning. I managed a very distant image of a Hare and was thrilled to see very large flocks of finches including lots of Yellow Hammers and Reed Buntings and even larger flocks of mixed Redwings and Fieldfare (next post!!).

Dorset 10: Higher Kingcombe Lodge and Lakes

Our stay at Kingcombe has come to an end though my posts for the rest of the trip will continue for a few days more! It is wonderful place to stay for anyone wanting tranquility, lots of wildlife to watch and photograph, very comfortable self-catering or bed and breakfast and very friendly owners (also fishing!!). I went out early on several morning - here a post from one such visit as the mist rises and then dissipates with the rising sun and the colours strengthen and worm in tone. Late-Forming Mist

It was frosty and clear early this morning but as the temperature warmed a mist developed giving lovely soft landscapes in Toft. I liked the way the lichen 'pixie cups' all had their frozen droplet.

Misty Walk to Battersea on Boxing Day
